Wiren Board 8: expansion modules

revision 106996

Translated section on internal and external modules for Wiren Board 8, with compatibility information for the two input modules documented on this site.

Internal expansion modules

Internal expansion modules are small circuit boards fitted inside the controller enclosure to add functions such as RS-485, RS-232, video output via HDMI, and relay outputs. The controller has four expansion-module slots with external terminal connections.

External I/O modules

I/O modules attach to the right-hand side connector. Each adds 8–16 digital or analog ports. Up to eight modules can be connected in sequence: up to four input modules (type I) and up to four output or I/O modules (types O and IO).

Power modules

Backup-power mezzanine boards fit inside the controller and can keep it operating for up to three hours.

Additional PoE modules provide power over Ethernet.

WBE2-DI-DR-3 compatibility

On WB8.4, WBE2-DI-DR-3 supports MOD1, MOD2 and MOD3, but not MOD4. On WB8.5 it supports MOD1, MOD2, MOD3 and MOD4.

Follow the complete WBE2-DI-DR-3 manual for installation, enclosure-tab removal where required, and software configuration. See also the WBIO-DI-HVD-16 manual for external-module installation and limits.
