General information

The YHDC HSTS016L Hall-effect current sensor converts DC current to voltage. It can measure DC current with the WB-MAI6 analog input module.

Its split core mounts around a power conductor without interrupting the conductor or its insulation.

Sensor output voltage is calculated as

U = 2.5 + 0.625 × I / Irated,

where:

  • I is measured current, positive when it flows in the arrow direction on the sensor enclosure and negative otherwise;
  • Irated is the sensor's rated current.

With WB-MAI6, select Hall-effect sensor mode and specify rated sensor current; the module automatically converts readings to physical units.

Installation

Before installation, remove dust and dirt from the mating core surfaces.

Fit the sensor around one or more conductors whose current is to be measured. The arrow on its base should match current direction.

The conductor or bundle must be smaller than the aperture so the sensor can rotate freely without clamping the wires. Otherwise the core halves may not close tightly and readings will be too low.

The table shows sensor wiring to WB-MAI6.

Signal Wire color WB-MAI6 connection
0V Black iGND
V+ Red +5V
Vout Yellow Any available input
Vref White Do not connect

Any WB-MAI6 channel can be used, but channels 5 and 6 are convenient because they have +5 V supply outputs. Up to 12 current sensors can connect to one WB-MAI6, two per channel.

More than 10 sensors require an external +5 V supply; WB-MAI6 outputs can power only 10 current sensors.

Configuration

Configure as described in WB-MAI6: Hall-effect current sensors.
