revision 2026-10-21
Covered order codes (1)
  • VA-P-DK-1-MB-B-B

The Ventalen DK-1-MB-B is a Modbus RTU gateway for control and monitoring of DAIKIN air-conditioning systems with an S21 or Wi-Fi connector. It also supports Fast Modbus. It is intended for split, ducted and floor-standing systems. Product range: Ventalen AIR; series: PRO; hardware version: B. Order code: VA-P-DK-1-MB-B-B.

Wiren Board integration is included from release wb-2310; earlier releases require a device template. Loxone integration uses a device template and a Loxone Modbus Extension.

3. Device appearance

The gateway has a compact enclosure with a removable screw terminal block for the RS-485 bus and DC power, an air-conditioner interface connector and an illuminated status button. Identify the hardware version before connecting it: version B has a different RS-485 pinout from earlier versions.

4. Quick start

  1. Disconnect power from both the air conditioner and gateway before making connections.
  2. Connect the gateway to the air conditioner's S21 connector using the appropriate cable.
  3. Check all connections before applying power.
  4. Use the recommended 24 V DC supply for the gateway.
  5. Do not install the device in damp locations.

4.1 Troubleshooting

  1. Check the air-conditioner interface cable: both connectors must be fully inserted, neither connector may be broken, and all conductors must be retained correctly at both ends.
  2. Check the gateway power supply. Measure the voltage at the terminal block if necessary.
  3. Check the A and B conductors of the RS-485 bus at both the gateway and the controller.
  4. Check that the RS-485 terminal block is fully inserted into the gateway.
  5. Check that the cable is suitable for an RS-485 bus.

4.2 Changing the baud rate

Write the required baud rate divided by 100 to holding register 110. For example, write 1152 for 115200 bit/s.

On Wiren Board, with wb-mqtt-serial stopped, this command sets the gateway at address 12 on RS485-1 to 115200 bit/s. The existing baud rate is 9600 bit/s:

modbus_client --debug -mrtu -b9600 -pnone -s2 /dev/ttyRS485-1 -a12 -t0x06 -r110 1152

Update the controller port settings to match the new gateway settings before resuming polling.

4.3 Changing the Modbus address

The factory default address is 1. Write the new address to holding register 128. Valid addresses are 1–247. With wb-mqtt-serial stopped, the following command changes the address from 1 to 12 on RS485-1:

modbus_client --debug -mrtu -b9600 -pnone -s2 /dev/ttyRS485-1 -a1 -t0x06 -r128 12

5. Modbus register map

The full register map is embedded below, including the service registers from the separate register-map document. R = read-only; RW = read/write. Addresses are decimal and hexadecimal protocol addresses.

7. Warranty

The stated warranty period is six years from sale through a retailer, retail representative or integrator. The warranty and service-life periods start when the product is handed over to the customer. If that date cannot be established, they start on the date of manufacture.

The warranty does not cover gateways or parts with signs of mechanical damage, liquid ingress, burning or opening; incomplete product sets; or faults caused by transport damage, careless handling, poor maintenance, incorrect installation or repair, work by unqualified personnel, or causes outside the manufacturer's control, such as incorrect bus voltage, fire, flooding or other force-majeure events. Warranty replacement and repairs are handled at the seller's premises.

10. System architecture

The gateway bridges the air conditioner's control interface to a Modbus RTU master over RS-485. A Wiren Board controller or Loxone Modbus Extension reads status and sends control commands through the gateway.

12.1.2 Uploading the template

  1. Download the local English device template.
  2. Open an SFTP client such as ForkLift. Start a connection to the controller's local IP address; the example uses 192.168.56.11. Use the controller's credentials. The original example uses root and the factory password wirenboard.
  3. The initial directory in the example is /mnt/data/root. Go up to /mnt/data, then open etc → wb-mqtt-serial.conf.d → templates.
  4. Copy the JSON file to /mnt/data/etc/wb-mqtt-serial.conf.d/templates/.

12.1.3 Adding the DAIKIN gateway

  1. Open the controller's local IP address in a browser.
  2. Select Settings → Configs → Serial device driver configuration.
  3. Select the serial port to which the gateway is connected; the example uses /dev/ttyRS485-1.
  4. Set 9600 bit/s, no parity, eight data bits and two stop bits (8N2), unless the gateway has been reconfigured.
  5. Click Add device and select Ventalen AIR DK-1-MB-B, the adapter for domestic and light-commercial Daikin systems.
  6. Enter the gateway's actual Modbus address. The example uses 2; this is not the default address.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Open Devices and expand the gateway tile. Its controls can now operate the air conditioner.
