Configuration without a Wiren Board controller
Connection and requirements
Use a USB–RS-485 converter such as WB-USB485 and supply power to the module. Connect A, B and GND to the corresponding adapter terminals. Open the Wiren Board device configurator in a browser supporting Web Serial: Chrome, Edge, Opera or Yandex Browser.
The configurator supports one or several devices on the same port and uses the same templates as wb-mqtt-serial. On Windows, find the adapter COM port in Device Manager; on Linux it commonly appears as /dev/ttyUSB0.
Port selection and discovery
Click Select port and choose the adapter. Click Scan to discover devices supporting Fast Modbus. They appear in the left-hand list.
Manual addition
If discovery is unavailable, click Add device, choose its template and enter Slave ID and communication parameters. Manually added devices are cached in the browser. Discovered devices can also be cached using Save locally or removed using Delete locally.
Reading and writing settings
Selecting a device reads its configuration and firmware version. An error is shown if reading fails. Edit parameters and click Save to write them to the device. For reading and writing, the configurator changes the USB adapter's serial settings to match the selected device; it does not change the device's serial settings automatically.
Channels
The Monitoring tab displays channel states and lets you operate writable channels such as relays. Values refresh when opening the tab, clicking Refresh, or every two seconds with Auto refresh enabled.
Firmware update
When a newer firmware version is available, a notification offers Update. Stable firmware is selected by default. Testing can be selected separately and may contain bugs. Update speed depends on the current serial settings.
Recovery
- Click Scan and enable Search for devices in bootloader mode.
- Wait for the bootloader scan, then stop once the device is found.
- Select the device and click Recover.
For faster recovery discovery, connect one device at a time.
Offline operation
The configurator's footer provides an offline HTML download containing its components, templates and firmware. It is updated daily. The adjacent release selector switches between Stable and Testing.
For command-line diagnostics, use modbus_client with the correct address, serial settings, function and register type. The older wb-modbus-device-editor is no longer supported.
